INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Eight members of the Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad participated yesterday at the University of Indianapolis "Friday Night Special" event.
The Warriors set three school records plus five more personal bests.
Junior
Erika Perry (Romeo, Mich.) eclipsed the school record with a throw of 15.37m in the weight throw to place fourth. Redshirt freshman
Elizabeth Herriman (Adrian, Mich. / Sand Creek) set a personal best with a throw of 13.40m to finish 10th, while
Gabrielle Herriman (Adrian, Mich. / Sand Creek) was 13th (12.65m).
Elizabeth Herriman broke the school mark in the shot put with a toss of 12.48m to place third.Â
Gabrielle Herriman was ninth with a throw of 10.63m, with Perry just behind at 10.62m.
Senior
Lauren Gagnon (Waterford, Mich. / Mott) set a school record in the 5k race with a second-place time of 17:08.91. Two other personal bests were set in the 5k as junior
Kayla Balfour (St. Clair, Mich.) had a time of 17:28.94, while classmate
Chelsea Johnson (Oxford, Mich.) had a personal best time of 17:38.00.
Gagnon and Balfour's times were both provisional qualifying times for the 2015 NCAA Indoor Track Championships with Gagnon's time currently third on the qualifying list for the 5k.
Sophomore
Leah Coonrod (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Gull Lake) had a personal best in the mile with a time of 5:24.66.
Senior
Cara Smock (Wyandotte, Mich. / Roosevelt) was WSU's top runner in the 3k placing sixth in a time of 11:00.83, while Coonrod set a personal best with a time of 11:24.10.
Wayne State's next competition will be on Saturday, January 10th at the Hillsdale Winter Opener.
