2016 W Week to Begin Saturday

The Seventh Annual W Week sponsored by Advanced Disposal will be held from April 16 until April 22.  The week of activities is devoted to celebrating the past 41 years of women's athletics at Wayne State.

APRIL 16:   The W Day brunch kicks off the week of activities celebrating 41 years of Women's athletics.  WSU will honor its class of "Women Who Made a Difference".  One woman from each varsity sport will be recognized for her specific contribution to her sport and the WSU Athletics community.

Those being honored are:

Women's Basketball - Shay Lewis
Women's Cross Country/Track - Kayla Gagnon
Women's Fencing - Amanda Roughley
Women's Golf - Meredith Weaver
Women's Softball - Logan White
Women's Tennis - Cami Fituch-Beaudoin
Women's Volleyball - Nicole Arends
 
Brunch will be served at 10:00 a.m. followed by Keynote Speaker - Sheila Taormina, a four-time Olympic athlete.  In addition, the Athletic Department will recognize the 2005-2006 Women's Swimming and Diving GLIAC Championship team as the "Team Who Made a Difference" at Wayne State University.

APRIL 17:  The men's tennis team will meet Ferris State at 10 a.m., while the baseball team hosts Lake Erie for a doubleheader beginning at noon.
 
APRIL 18:  THE HUNTSMAN:  Movie night will be hosted by WSU Athletics at Emagine Royal Oak!  A complimentary shuttle will be available in front of the Matthaei at 7:30 p.m. sharp.  Please arrive early so the bus can depart on time. The show begins at 8:00 p.m., students will be shuttled back to Matthaei at the conclusion of the show. 

APRIL 19:  Visit the Mort Harris Recreation & Fitness Center beginning at 10:00 a.m. for its annual Health Fair. Vendors from a variety of businesses and organizations will be on hand to provide information and education.

APRIL 20:  At 6 p.m. inside the Multipurpose Indoor Facility, Henry Ford Health System and the President's Commission on the Status of Women (COSW) will host a seminar entitled "Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle: Caretaking in the New Millennium".  Please see attached flyer.

APRIL 22:  The Wayne State Athletic Department is collecting basic needs items including, but not limited to soap, socks, toothbrushes, toilet paper, feminine products and deodorant for its annual Basic Needs Drive. In conjunction with Wayne Cares and Covenant House Michigan, the drive collects small toiletry items to make basic needs bags to distribute later that day.  If you would like to donate, please bring your items to the Matthaei Athletic Complex prior to April 22.  Please see attached flyer.
