KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (2-6) continued its spring non-conference schedule on Friday night at Western Michigan. The Warriors fell 7-0.
Luke Ruocco (Lewes, England / Priory) and
Trey Keating (Troy, Mich.) began the evening with a 6-2 defeat at No. 1 doubles.
Mohamed Fazyl Kechai (Paris, France / Martin Luther King) and
Gopinath Menta (Hyderabad, India / Bharatiya Vidya Bhavans) were victorious, 6-3, in second flight doubles.
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England / Peter Symonds College) and
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France / Chevreul Blancarde) dropped the No. 3 doubles match, 6-2.
WSU trailed 1-0 after doubles due to Division I scoring rules.
Ryan Carlson fell (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 singles while Fazyl Kechai dropped his top flight singles match 6-0, 6-2.
Charriere fell 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles before Keating dropped his match at No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2.
The final two matches of the night were the most competitive as Reed and Ruocco both won their second sets at No. 6 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Reed dropped his match 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 and Ruocco fell 6-4, 5-7, 10-7.
The Warriors will be back in action against Chicago State in Homewood, Ill. at 2 PM.
