RALEIGH, N.C. -- Ten members of the Wayne State University women's track team competed on Friday at the Raleigh Relays.
Junior
Chelsea Johnson (Oxford, Mich.) broke the school record in the 5K race with a time of 16:52.95. The previous mark (16:57.50) was set last April by All-American
Jen Rock at the Long Beach State Invite.
Senior
Lauren Gagnon (Waterford, Mich. / Waterford Mott) placed 14th in the 10K event with a time of 35:23.26, which was the second fastest in school history.
In the discus, redshirt freshman
Sloane Brunner (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) finished 15th (36.41m / 119-05), while sophomore
Gabrielle Herriman (Adrian, Mich. / Sand Creek) was 15th in the shot put (12.09m / 39-08.00).
Others competing on Friday were
Christina Kollien (Alpena, Mich.) in the 100m hurdles (16.16),
Elizabeth Herriman (Adrian, Mich. / Sand Creek) in the shot put (11.21m),
Imani Bush (Canton, Ohio / South) in the 100m (13.20),
Dazmonique Carr (Lawnside, N.J. / Haddon Heights) in the 400m (59.84),
Kayla Smade (Columbus, Mich. / St. Clair) in the 1500m (4:47.24) and
Jessie Kluz (Sterling Heights, Mich. / MMSTC) in the high jump.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Three distance runners competed at the Washington University Invitational Friday evening.
Junior
Kayla Balfour (St. Clair, Mich.) ran a 35:29.41 in the men's and women's combined 10K event. Her time was two seconds faster than Rock's time at the 2014 NCAA Championships that earned her All-America status.
Sophomore
Leah Coonrod (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Gull Lake) and junior
Anne Okonowski (Dearborn, Mich. / Divine Child) both participated in the 5k race. Coonrod finished 13th in a time of 17:58.22, while Okonowski ran a 19:04.77 to finish 41st.
