DETROIT -- The Wayne State University Department of Athletics honored the Warrior student-athletes who recorded at least a 3.50 grade-point average for the Fall 2015 term during its 16th annual Academic Recognition Luncheon held earlier today at Historic St. Andrew's on the WSU campus.
Seven Deans' Award winners were also recognized for having the highest cumulative grade-point average among all student-athletes in that particular college:
* College of Liberal Arts and Sciences -
Hannah Loesch (Pensacola, Fla.) is a senior on the women's swimming team. Loesch, who is an english honors major, was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) six times and the Coach's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.0-3.49) once in her first seven semesters at WSU. She was a 2015 CoSIDA Academic At-Large All-America Third Team selection and finished her collegiate career as an eight-time All-American (Four First Team and Four Honorable Mention accolades).
* College of Education -
Gabby Williams (South Lyon, Mich.) is a senior on the softball team. Williams is an elementary education major, who has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) six times and the Coach's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.0-3.49) once in her first seven semesters. She is a member of the WSU Student-Athlete Leadership Council and will be a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team honoree.
* School of Business Administration -
Aaron Weston (Comstock Park, Mich. / Rockford) is a redshirt junior on the football team. Weston, who is double majoring in accounting and finance, was selected as the WSU Football Scholar-Athlete Award recipient last December. He has earned a spot on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) all seven semesters at WSU. Weston, who has played in 32 games for the Green and Gold, is a three-time GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team selection.
* College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts -
Sandra Harris (Goodrich, Mich.) is in her third year as a member of the cheerleading squad. She is a public relations major, who has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) three times.
* College of Engineering -
Elly Maleski (Cedar, Mich. / Traverse City West) is a senior on the women's swimming team. Maleski, who majors in biomedical engineering honors, has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) six times and the Coach's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.0-3.49) the other semester. A 2015 CoSIDA Second Team Academic All-America honoree, she has also been a 16-time All-America swimmer, including 14 First Team All-America accolades.
* College of Nursing -
Leah Coonrod (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Gull Lake) was a junior on the women's cross country squad. Coonrod, who is a nursing honors major, has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) all five semesters. She is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
* Honors College -
Kaylee Dolinski (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) is a redshirt senior on the women's swimming team and has earned the Honors College Deans' Award for the second consecutive year. Dolinski, who is a biology honors major, has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.5+) seven times and the Coach's Honor Roll (term gpa 3.0-3.49) the other two semesters. She earned GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognition the last four seasons.
Twenty-one (21) student-athletes recorded a perfect 4.00 term GPA with a record 66 percent of Warrior student-athletes receiving above a 3.00 for the recently completed Fall semester.
"We measure ourselves in athletics -- that's why we keep score," said Director of Athletics
Rob Fournier. "And this academic performance reflects the hard work and dedication of student-athletes, coaches and staff. To have our highest GPA ever (3.15), and consistently have that success across all programs (14 above a 3.0) is worthy of acknowledgement. When you consider our graduation rate (76%) and community service outreach (10,754 hours) there is a lot to recognize."
