DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (1-3) defeated visiting Lawrence Tech University (6-2), 8-1, in its home opener on Wednesday inside the Multipurpose Indoor Facility behind strong performances by the singles players.
SINGLES RESULTS
· Freshman
Mats Westkamp (Born, Germany) (6-1, 6-2), and
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) (6-0, 6-2) both won easily against the their No. 1 and No. 2 singles competition, respectively.
· Senior
Clement Charriere (Marseille, France) (6-0, 6-2) and junior
Luke Ruocco (Lewes, England) (6-2, 7-6 (7-2)) also won in straight sets in their No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches.

Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) won his No. 5 singles match in convincing fashion, 6-1, 6-2. Senior
Ryan Carlson (Armada, Mich.) (5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-5)) was defeated by the Blue Devils No. 6 singles player.
DOUBLES RESULTS
· The Reed/Carlson twosome overcame Lawrence Tech's No. 1 doubles team, 8-6.
· The Westkamp/Mertz duo trounced their opponents, 8-3.
· Charriere and Ruocco outlasted the Blue Devils No. 3 doubles team 8-6.
