TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team opened up play at the Toledo Rocket Tournament Friday, with sophomore
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) earning a win in both singles in doubles play.
Westkamp earned a 6-1, 7-6 (8) win over Franz Luna of St. Francis in singles play, and then paired with Junior
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England)to earn a 7-5 win over Alec Dylan Foo-Kune and Charles Morkel.
The doubles tandem of senior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) and
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich. / Coldwater) won against Chicago State's Christian Gonzalez and Felix Savard.
RESULTS
Taylor Vane fell 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (5) to Foo-Kune, with freshman
Niklas Kracz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) losing 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (4) to Gonzalez.
Chicago State's Rohan Wattley defeated sophomore
Daniel Kellenbenz (Büdingen, Germany) 6-4, 6-1.
Sophomore
Jason Potter (Sterling Heights, Mich. / International Academy East) battled Chicago State's Cody Wurzelbacher, losing 11-9 in the third set.
In doubles, Kracz and junior
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) lost 6-3 to Franz Luna and Sebastan Pinos (St. Francis), while Kracz and Kellenbenz fell 6-4 to Matthew Kritzinger and Yossi Dahan of Youngstown State.
