CANTON, Ohio – The Wayne State University men's tennis team (3-1 overall) won its third consecutive dual match Saturday, defeating host Walsh 9-0 at the North Canton Tennis Club.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore
Mats Westkamp (Bonn, Germany) and junior
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) were winners in the first flight, defeating Vasily Vidmanov and Rodrigo Garcia 8-6. That score mirrored the second flight, as junior
Griffin Mertz and senior
Harvey Reed (Winchester, Hampshire, England) defeated Filipp Kulynych and Guilherne Garneiro. The final doubles flight was claimed by sophomore
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) won 8-5 over Jonah Carter and Heitor Adegas.
SINGLES RESULTS
Westkamp saw Vidmanov again in the first singles flight and again earned a win. This time, Westkamp earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
Vane faced Kylynych at No. 2, winning 6-2, 6-0.
At the third flight, Mertz battled Jonah Carter, taking the match 6-1, 6-2.
Karcz and Garcia made up the fourth flight, with the Warrior earning a 6-0, 6-0 decision.
Sammons and Adegas squared off for the second time in the fifth singles fight, as Sammons earned a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 victory.
Reed won 6-2, 6-2 in the sixth flight, defeating Adegas.
UP NEXT
After competing in three matches this week, Wayne State will take a six-day break before traveling to Aquinas on Friday. The contest will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be played at the MVP SportsPlex in Grand Rapids.
