Men's Tennis Competes in ITA Regional Semifinals

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad had three flights compete in the ITA Regional Championship semifinals on Sunday.

B SINGLES RECAP
Freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) represented the Warriors well in his first event as a member of the team, advancing to the semifinals after two days of matches.  Rink faced the University of Illinois Springfield's Alex Chan but lost in a close second set match (6-2, 7-6(5)).  Chan moved on to defeat his opponent in the finals, becoming the B Singles champion.

A DOUBLES RECAP
Redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) fought hard in their three previous matches over the past few days.  They fell short in the semifinals, however, to UIndy's Matej Kostadinov and Dario Huber (8-3).  After playing in the finals, Kostadinov and Huber won the title for A Doubles.

B DOUBLES RECAP
Freshmen Rink and David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) were the last flight to compete in the semifinals for the Warriors.  They faced DJ Colantone and Nicholas Urban from Grand Valley, but suffered a loss to the Lakers (8-4).

UP NEXT
The squad will participate in the Northwestern Ohio Racer Invitational in Lima on Oct. 6.
