Men's Swim and Dive Posts 189-79 Victory at Saginaw Valley State

Junior Ryan Katulski notches three victories for the Green and Gold.
UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving squad earned a 189-79 win at Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening.

Prior to the meet, the Warriors were ranked eighth nationally by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) in the third TYR Top 25 Dual Meet Swimming and Diving Poll of the season.  They were previously ranked 24th in the nation.

QUALIFYING STANDARDS

Junior Sasha Palazzo (Verona, Italy) won the 100 breast in a B Standard qualifying time of 54.31.  Palazzo also finished first in the 200 breast (2:04.36).

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Junior Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich.) earned first-place finishes in the 50 free (20.77) and the 100 free (46.41).

Redshirt freshman Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) claimed the top spot in the 200 free (1:42.14) and the 200 back (1:50.36).

Junior Leonardo de Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched victories in the 1000 free (9:53.11) and the 500 free (4:47.03).

Senior Dima Drobnych (Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine) finished first in the 100 back with a time of 49.77.

Junior Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) obtained a win in the 200 fly (1:54.61).

Senior Rasmus Olsen (Kastrup, Denmark) won the 100 fly in a time of 49.53.

RELAY RESULTS

WSU claimed first place in the 200 medley relay (1:30.11).  The winning quartet included Drobnych, Palazzo, Olsen, and Katulski.

"Another remarkable performance for the men.  They are really rising to the challenges placed ahead of them, and meeting them with excellence.  I was very pleased to see some of our younger swimmers take a step forward today."

UP NEXT

The Warriors will host Findlay on Friday, Jan. 18, at 5 p.m. to face the Oilers at the Matthaei Natatorium.
