Men's Swim & Dive Notches Victory Over Tiffin

The Warriors are ranked 15th in the CSCAA/TYR Top 25 DII Preseason Poll.

Senior Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro earned an NCAA B-standard qualifying time in the 400 IM.
DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving squad tallied a 148.5-60.5 win against Tiffin in its home-opening meet at the Matthaei Natatorium on Friday.

The CSCAA/TYR Top 25 Division II Preseason Poll was released on Wednesday, Oct. 16th, ranking the WSU men 15th in the nation.  The top 14 teams include:  Queens-Charlotte, Indianapolis, Delta State, McKendree, GLIAC opponent Grand Valley State, UC San Diego, Emmanuel, Drury, Nova Southeastern, Lindenwood, Colorado Mesa, Missouri S & T, Tampa, and Simon Fraser.  Following the Green and Gold is Florida Southern, Carson-Newman, and GLIAC opponent Northern Michigan.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Senior Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a victory in the 200 IM (1:58.45).  Additionally, Ribeiro swam a 400 IM time trial in an NCAA B-standard qualification time of 3:59.09.

Senior Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich.) claimed the top spots in the 50 free (21.30) and the 100 free (47.04).

Redshirt sophomore Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) finished first in both the 200 free (1:45.92) and 200 back (1:54.98).

Senior Leonardo de Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) earned a first-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 9:57.68.

Junior Max Wyche (Detroit, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) tallied the most points in the one-meter dive (253.85) and the three-meter dive (233.70).

Redshirt senior Ahmed Ahmed (Alexandria, Egypt) swam the fastest time in both the 500 free (4:51.28) and 200 breast (2:09.20).

Freshman Josh Mahaney (Saline, Mich.) was the runner-up in the 200 fly with a time of 2:01.43.

RELAY RESULTS

WSU notched a victory in the 400 medley relay, clocking in at 3:30.15.  The winning quartet included Mueller as the lead off, Ahmed, Ribeiro, and Katulski as the anchor.

The fastest 400 free relay (3:16.97) quartet consisted of freshman Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia), junior Jacob Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.), sophomore Noah Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.), and junior Jack Rogers (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Portage Central).

WSU will host the Division I Golden Grizzlies in a 5:30 p.m. meet against Oakland on Friday, Oct. 25th.
