Men's Swim & Dive Edges Ashland

The Warriors won 693.5-513.5 in Eagle territory.

Senior Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro won two individual events and one relay.

ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team notched a 693.5-513.5 victory at Ashland on Friday evening.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS

Senior Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) notched a victory in the 400 IM (4:07.66), with classmate Leonardo de Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) as the runner-up (4:15.57). Ribeiro also claimed the top spot in the 100 fly (51.56) and was trailed by sophomore Abdelrahman Hassan (Cairo, Egypt) in second place (52.62).

Freshman Casey Dolen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) earned his first collegiate victory in the 200 free (1:45.56).

Senior Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich.) finished first in the 50 free with a time of 21.06, followed by sophomore Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) in second place (21.31).

Sophomore diver Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) tallied his first wins of the season on the one-meter board (251.25 points) and on the three-meter board (269.02 points). Junior Max Wyche (Detroit, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) was the runner-up in the three-meter dive (243.07 points).

Redshirt sophomore Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) finished first in the 100 back (53.28), followed by sophomore Chris Spencer (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi Catholic) in second (56.65).

Junior Jacob Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.) swam the fastest Warrior time in the 100 free (47.54).

Redshirt senior Ahmed Ahmed (Alexandria, Egypt) earned a second-place finish in the 100 breast (58.82).

Sophomore Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) claimed the second spot in the 500 free (4:45.85) and the third spot in the 1650 free (17:09.63).

RELAY RESULTS

WSU notched a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:34.86). The winning quartet consisted of Mueller as the lead off, Ahmed, Ribeiro, and Katulski as the anchor.

The Green and Gold also tallied a win in the 200 free relay (1:24.75). The first-place group included freshman Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia), Nowinski, Mueller, and Katulski.

*Due to timing issues, results may not be one-hundred percent accurate and therefore will not count for NCAA purposes.

"Well, today was unique", commented head coach Sean Peters. "I was glad that we had the opportunity to compete against Ashland, and continue to grow and learn from this experience. I thought that Ryan Katulski, Stewart Nowinski, Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro, Leonardo de Oliveira, Franz Mueller, Casey Dolen, Sam Krahn, Kyle Lovas, and Ahmed Ahmed had really nice performances today."
