Men's Tennis Blanks Lawrence Tech in Home Opener

WSU claimed a 7-0 win over the Blue Devils.

Senior Griffin Mertz swept LTU in his No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles matches.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (1-1 overall, 0-0 GLIAC) notched a 7-0 victory over Lawrence Tech (5-2 overall, 1-0 WHAC) in its first home match of the season on Wednesday.

DOUBLES RESULTS
At No. 1 doubles, seniors Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) and Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) blanked Alexander Tammaro and Alex Fernandez-Rajal, 6-0.

The No. 3 doubles pair of redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) was next off the court, winning 6-1 against Lukas Obel and Robert Saitov.

At the second flight, sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) notched a 6-3 victory over Alejo Godall Tintore and Viktor Kolesnychenko.

SINGLES RESULTS
Karcz claimed a win over Tammaro at the first singles flight (6-2, 6-3).

At No. 2 singles, Vane swept the entire match against Saitov (6-0, 6-0).

Renaudie won his No. 3 singles match versus Fernandez-Rajal (6-1, 6-0).

Mertz blanked Godall Tintore at the fourth singles flight (6-0, 6-0).

At No. 5 singles, Rink claimed a win over Obel in his first home match as a Warrior (6-1, 6-3).

Freshman David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) notched his first collegiate home victory at No. 6 singles vs. Kolesnychenko (6-3, 6-2).
