SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (5-14 overall, 4-10 GLIAC) lost 90-66 at Lake Superior State University (12-8 overall, 8-6 GLIAC) Thursday evening.
The host Lakers scored nine of the game's first 11 points with junior
Xavier Cochran (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) scoring WSU's lone bucket in the first 3:30. After a Cochran jumper, LSSU scored four points before the Warriors went on a 13-7 run to pull within three at 20-17. Â

Darian Owens-White (Ypsilanti, Mich. / River Rouge) started the spurt with five points, while senior
Javon Henderson (Detroit, Mich. University Prep) tallied six consecutive Wayne State points.
Lake Superior responded with a 14-2 run to increase its advantage to 15 (34-19) with 7:30 remaining in the first half. LSSU ended the opening stanza on a 15-9 run to push the Warrior deficit to 21 (49-28) at intermission.
After the Lakers scored the first five points of the second half, Henderson scored four straight points. Following LSSU's biggest lead of 26 points (60-34), Wayne State answered with an 13-2 run as junior
Karim Murray (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) tallied five of the points to cut the margin to 15 (62-47).
A conventional three-point play by Murray just before the mid-point of the second half pulled WSU within 13 (67-54), but Lake Superior responded with a 15-2 run to seal the victory.
TEAM STATS
Wayne State shot 46 percent (28-of-61) from the floor, while LSSU was 36-of-67 (54 percent). WSU was just 2-of-9 (22 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Lakers connected on 40 percent (12-of-30) of their three-point attempts. The Warriors made 8-of-14 free throw attempts (57 percent), compared to 86 percent (6-of-7) for Lake Superior State. LSSU had a 36-8 edge in bench scoring, while both teams finished with 46 points in the paint.

Henderson nearly had a double-double with a team-high total of 23 points and a game-best eight rebounds. Murray contributed 17 points, while senior
Latin Davis, Jr. (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Milan) had a game-high six assists.
LEADING THE LAKERS
Blake Marquardt scored a game-high 29 points, which included seven triples. Jackson Schrameyer had 19 points and a team-high six rebounds, while Malek Adams chipped in with 18 points.
