Men's Swim and Dive Wins Meet at SVSU, 180-103

Five different freshmen earned top-three finishes.

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's swimming and diving squad tallied a 180-103 win at Saginaw Valley State on Friday evening.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Senior Joao Martimbianco Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) claimed first place in the 100 breast (59.40), the 200 breast (2:07.70), and swam the fastest time in the 200 IM (1:56.81). Freshman Hans Anderson (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) served as the runner-up in the 100 breast (59.60) and finished third in the 200 breast (2:14.25). Sophomore Derek Wilson (Marysville, Mich.) swam the second fastest time in the 200 IM (2:02.24).

Redshirt senior Ahmed Ahmed (Alexandria, Egypt) earned the top spots in the 200 free (1:44.19) and in the 500 free (4:45.95). Redshirt sophomore Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) finished second in the 200 free (1:46.12). Senior Leonardo de Oliveira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and sophomore Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) placed second (4:50.91) and third (4:53.74) in the 500 free, respectively.

De Oliveira notched a victory in the 1000 free (9:54.96), with freshman Matt Vassilakos in third place (10:19.49).

Freshman Josh Mahaney (Saline, Mich.) landed in first place in the 200 fly (1:58.17), followed by sophomore Chris Westgate (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester Adams) in third place (2:02.88).

Freshman Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) notched a victory in the 50 free (21.19), with senior Ryan Katulski (Novi, Mich.) in second place (21.22).

Katulski earned a first-place finish in the 100 free (46.80), followed by Cvetko in second place (47.68).

Mueller finished first in the 200 back with a time of 1:54.14, with sophomore Chris Spencer (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi Catholic) as the runner-up (1:59.43).

Sophomore Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) was the runner-up in the one-meter dive (232.15 points), followed by freshman Andrew Ceely (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Skyline) with a third-place finish (216.50 points). Porter earned 210.75 points on the three-meter dive, with Ceely tallying 162.65 points.

Sophomore Abdelrahman Hassan (Cairo, Egypt) placed second in the 100 fly with a time of 52.21.

Spencer completed the 100 back in third place with a time of 54.66.

RELAY RESULTS
WSU notched a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:33.66). The winning quartet included Mueller as the lead off, Ahmed, Ribeiro, and Katulski as the anchor.

Wayne State also swam the fastest 200 free relay (1:27.13). The group consisted of Katulski, sophomore Emil Nkemdilim-Dantzler (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Avondale), Mahaney, and Lovas.
