Men's Tennis Signs Two for 2020-21 Season

WSU will lose one senior at the end of the season.

DETROIT -- Head coach Bryan Morrow and the men's tennis program announced the addition of two players.  Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) and David Pluszczyk (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) will join the Warriors in the fall of 2020.

"We are losing one player at the end of this year," commented Morrow.  "The incoming freshmen will help our team in both singles and doubles.  They have a very nice upside and can become contributing factors to our team early in the game.  They are both very strong in the classroom as well, which is always something that I look for.  I am very excited about them.  They seem, not only very coachable, but team oriented.  I think that they will fit in nicely with the team chemistry that we already have."

Daniel Grey // Wiesbaden, Germany (Gutengergschule)
High School:  Will be a 2020 graduate of Gutengergschule ... traveled to South Africa in 2019 and participated in two ITF junior tournaments ... reached the finals of the U16 Hessian Youth Championships in the summer of 2018 ... competed for Wiesbaden THC (tennis and hockey club) and coach Max Birka ... is a three-time school tennis team state champion and a two-time (2018 and 2020) state runner-up ... has served as a team captain ... also competed in soccer and handball.

Coach Morrow's Thoughts
"Daniel is a left-handed player that has a very good all-court game and is comfortable at the net.  He has very nice German rankings that are continuously going up, so he is heading in a really good direction.  Daniel is also a strong doubles player with his comfort level at the net.  I am very excited to have him."

David Pluszczyk // White Lake, Mich. (Lakeland)
High School:  Will be a 2020 graduate of Lakeland High School ... was a three-year letterwinner and a two-time MHSTeCA (Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association) All-State singles player for coach Chris Carlson ... played No. 1 singles all three years ... went undefeated (22-0) during regular-season play his junior year ... LHS finished fourth in the league during his sophomore (7-3 record) year, third his junior season (6-2 record) and second his senior year (9-1 record) ... served as team captain for the Eagles during his junior and senior years ... lost in the 2019 finals of the Premier Athletic & Tennis Club Fall Classic in a super tiebreaker ... was a regional semifinalist as a sophomore.

Coach Morrow's Thoughts
"David is a Michigan kid who has a tremendous upside.  He is very athletic and a great server.  David is a solid player and does not really have any weaknesses.  I am most excited that, for his age, he is very comfortable at the net.  I think that he will come in and be an asset right away in both singles and doubles.  It is exciting to have another strong player join the team."
