Men's Cross Country Signs Four For 2021

DETROIT -- Wayne State University head men's and women's cross country, and women's track & field head coach Grant Lofdahl has announced the signing of four high school seniors to be Warriors in the fall of 2021.

Coming to Detroit in August will be Eli DiCerbo (Clinton Township, Mich. / Fraser and Macomb Mathematics Science and Technology Center), Corban Hauch (West Olive, Mich. / Zeeland West), D'Anthony Shaw (Romulus, Mich. / Summit Academy North) and Stevan Stajic (Belle River, Ont. / Tecumseh Vista Academy).

Eli Dicerbo, 5-8, Clinton Township, Mich. / Fraser (Macomb Mathematics Science and Technology Center)
High School:  Will be a 2021 graduate of Fraser High School (Macomb Mathematics Science and Technology Center) ... was a two-year varsity letterwinner for coach Kevin Storai and the Ramblers ... finished second at the 2019 MHSAA Division 1 regional meet at Chandler Park in a personal-best time of 15:30.00, then placed 44th at the state meet (16:15.6) ... finished 12th at the 2020 MHSAA regional meet at Anchor Bay High School in a time of 16:25.3 to earn a spot at the state meet ... ran a season-best time of 16:07 in 2020 at the Macomb Area Conference White Division Jamboree #1 ... competed in one indoor meet in 2020 before the pandemic ... ran a 4:31.47 for 1600m at the MITS Indoor State Finals ... served as a team captain as a senior for both cross country and track ... was an Academic All-State honoree.

Personal:  Full name--Elijah M. DiCerbo ... born on November 29, 2002, in Detroit ... son of John and Loraine DiCerbo ... has an older brother, Ian, who swam at WSU in 2018-19, and an older sister, Angela ... plans to major in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science.

Coach Lofdahl on Eli DiCerbo:  "We are very optimistic about Eli's potential as a collegiate runner.  He struggled with an illness during his senior cross country season, but showed a lot of talent as a junior as well as plenty of guts while running through adversity this fall.  He is one of the strongest students we have ever signed, and on top of that he is an Eagle Scout.

Corban Hauch, 5-11, West Olive, Mich. / Zeeland West
High School:  Will be a 2021 graduate of Zeeland West High School ... earned five varsity letters (three in cross country - 2018-19-20, and two in track - 2018-19, since the 2020 track season was canceled) for the Dux and coach Phil Hoover ... finished 60th at the 2020 MHSAA Division 1 state cross country meet in a time of 16:24.35 ... placed 82nd as a junior with a time of 16:34.5 ... ran a time of 16:42.7 as a sophomore to finish 27th at the MHSAA Division 2 state cross country meet ... won three meets as a senior and placed second at the OK Green Conference meet ... competed at the 2018 MHSAA Division 2 state regional meet in the 3200m race placing ninth (10:19.97) ... was a member of the National Honor Society ... received Academic All-State honors each of his last three seasons.

Personal:  Full name--Corban M. Hauch ... born on March 2, 2003, in Zeeland ... son of Troy and Michelle Hauch ... has two younger brothers, Carson and Oliver, and a younger sister, Lillian ... plans to major in Chemical Engineering ... last name is pronounced HOW-k.

Coach Lofdahl on Corban Hauch:  "Corban is a hard-working, intelligent, dedicated runner who we believe will develop into a very good competitor at the longer 8K and 10K distances, in time.  He comes from a good track and cross country program at Zeeland West, and has had a lot of championship racing experience at the high school level."

D'Anthony Shaw, 5-9, Romulus, Mich. / Summit Academy North
High School:  Will be a 2021 graduate of Summit Academy North High School ... was a four-year cross country letterwinner for coach Sarah Boisvert ... won three meets as a senior, including the MHSAA Pre-Regional meet at Milan in a personal-best time of 16:29.5 ... advanced to the MHSAA Division 2 state meet in 2020 after placing 17th at the Regional meet at Gibraltar Carlson ... participated in the 2019 MHSAA Division 2 state meet after finishing 10th at the Regional meet ... won two meets as a junior - Warrior Classic Invitational (at Lake Erie Metropark) and Monroe Jefferson Invitational ... best result as a sophomore was a fifth-place finish at the Wyandotte Fall Festival ... selected as the SANHS Athlete of the Year as a junior ... received the Charter School Conference Runner of the Year award for three consecutive seasons (2018-19-20) ... also competed in basketball and track & field for the Dragons ... produced best times of 4:44.97 for 1600m with a fourth-place finish at the 2019 Wayne County Championships, and 10:21.77 for 3200m that same day ... competed at the MHSAA Division 2 state regional meet as a freshman for 1600m ... participated in both the 1600m and 4x800m relay at the 2019 regional meet ... the 3200m relay placed third in a time of 8:30.82 ... did not have a junior track season (2020) due to the pandemic ... served as a team captain in both cross country and basketball ... was a two-time All-Academic honoree.

Personal:  Full name--D'Anthony W. Shaw ... born on April 3, 2003, in Romulus ... son of Anthony and Cassandra Shaw ... has three younger brother, Elijah, Joshua, and Jeremiah ... plans to major in Kinesiology.

Coach Lofdahl on D'Anthony Shaw:  "Motivation and the drive to train hard are key attributes in this sport, and D'Anthony has a lot of both of those.  He is a very driven young man, and has what we believe to be a great deal of potential as he begins training with a big group of talented runners and we increase his training load.  His enthusiasm and positive attitude will benefit our team as well."

Stevan Stajic, 5-11, Belle River, Ont. / Tecumseh Vista Academy
High School:  Will be a 2021 graduate of Tecumseh Vista Academy ... placed seventh at the Southwestern Ontario Cross Country Championships ... finished eighth at the 2019 WECSSAA Cross Country Championships in a time of 21:31 ... ran a 19:04.6 for 5k at the 2018 Ontario Provincial Championships ... finished fifth in the 3000m race at the Southwestern Ontario Track Championships ... placed fourth in the 1500m race at the 2019 WECSSAA Track Championships in a time of 4:35.90 ... also competed in wresting for the Vortex winning a gold medal (57.5 kg) at the 2020 WECSSAA (Windsor and Essex County Secondary Schools Athletic Association) Championships ... has been a member of the TVA Academic Honor Roll ... competes during the summer for the Windsor Legion Track and Field Club.

Personal:  Full name--Stevan N. Stajic ... born on May 23, 2003, in Windsor, Ont. ... son of Tom and Mara Stajic ... has an older brother, Aleks, and a younger sister, Ava ... plans to major in Biomedical Engineering ... first name is pronounced STE-von.

Coach Lofdahl on Stevan Stajic:  "Stevan is still a bit of a mystery, as his racing opportunities over the past 15 months have been almost nonexistent. He has put in a great deal of work on his own and with a training group during the COVID shutdowns, and has run some solid marks in time trials.  His mentality will serve him well as he transitions to training and racing at the D2 level."
