Luke Laws collects three wins in C Singles draw.

PARK FOREST, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team completed their fall season with a strong showing at the Purdue Northwest Invitational this weekend.

The Warriors were solid in doubles action, led by the pair of Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) and Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany). The duo won the A Doubles draw. In their first match, they took down their opponent 6-4 before collecting a 6-3 win in the semifinal. Drenth and Grey would go on to win the final match 6-4 over fellow Warriors Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) and Dom Spicer (London, England).

Spicer and Laws battled their way to the final via a 7-6 (3) win in the opening round and a 7-6 (8) win in the semifinals.

In B Doubles action, another pair of Warriors were able to take the title. Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) and Joe Steele (Beverly Hills, Mich. / U. of Detroit Jesuit) were strong in their three outings. In the first round, the duo took down Purdue Northwest's team 6-3. In the semifinal, Karcz and Steele won the match 6-4. In the final, the two earned a hard fought 7-6 (4) victory.

WSU also had some success in singles play, with Laws winning the C bracket. Laws was dominant throughout the tournament, never dropping a set. In the first round, Laws took down his opponent 7-5, 6-1. His next opponent was no match, as Laws picked up a 6-0, 6-1 decision. In the final, Laws was again too strong, as he knocked off his opponent 6-4, 7-6 (6).

Spicer, Grey Ryan Okonski (Stevensville, Mich. / St. Joseph) and David Pluszczyk (White Lake, Mich. / Lakeland) also won their opening matches in singles play before falling in the semifinal round of their respective brackets.
