Men's Swim and Dive Defeated by Northern Michigan

Grant Porter won the 3-meter diving event.

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's swim and dive team fell to Northern Michigan for the second consecutive day.  The Green and Gold were defeated 166-123. 

Individual Results
Alex Capizzo (Fraser, Mich.) earned first place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.74.  In the 200-yard butterfly, Capizzo finished in second. He posted a 1:58.87. 

In the 100-yard backstroke, Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany), Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) and Chris Spencer (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi Catholic) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.  Mueller touched out at 51.67, Kinnard notched a time of 52.29 and Spencer finished in 54.69.  Kinnard also placed second in the 200-yard IM. 

In the 50-yard freestyle, Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) and Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) picked up second and third place, respectively.  Nowinski finished with a time of 21.15, while Cvetko had a time of 21.22. 

Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) finished second, while Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) took third in 1-meter diving.  Cottingham, Jr. scored 222.45 and Porter added 210.37.  In the 3-meter diving event, Porter took first place with a score of 237.15.  Cottingham, Jr. came in third, notching a score of 213.19. 

In the 500-yard freestyle, Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) and Marko Vucelic (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) picked up second and third, respectively.  Lovas had a time of 4:54.98 and Vucelic finished at 4:57.30.  After that, Mueller picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly.  His time was 52.47. 

Relay Results
The Green and Gold took second in the 200-yard medley relay.  The team consisted of Kinnard, Hans Anderson (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), Mueller and Cvetko.  They picked up a time of 1:33.25. 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Warriors picked up the top two times, with Cvetko, Nowinski, Noah Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.) and Mueller winning the event with a time of 1:22.89.  Following them for the Warriors were Josh Mahaney (Saline, Mich.), Casey Dolen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter), Lovas and Capizzo.  They touched out in 1:29.30.

The Warriors will be in action again at the Don Kimble Invitational, which is set for Nov. 19-21 in Kentwood, Mich.
