Men's Swim and Dive Loses Close Meet to Northern Michigan

The Warriors get a second chance against the Wildcats on Nov. 6 at 10 AM.

MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Wayne State men's swim and dive team lost a close meet to Northern Michigan on the opening day of a two meet stretch against the Wildcats.  The Warriors fell 117-103 on the opening day. 

Individual Results
In the 25-yard backstroke, Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) nabbed the top time of 11.45.  Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) came in third, posting a time of 11.54. 

Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) and Josh Mahaney (Saline, Mich.) finished second and fourth respectively in the 75-yard butterfly.  Jones notched a time of 38.28, while Mahaney touched out in 38.68. 

Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia), Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) and Noah Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.) were strong in the 75-yard freestyle.  Cvetko took second with a time of 34.46, Nowinski touched out in third at 34.56 and Barstad collected fourth place, finishing in 34.99. 

Kinnard and Chris Spencer (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi Catholic) found success in the 75-yard backstroke, finishing second and third, respectively.  Kinnard collected a time of 38.78, while Spencer touched the wall at 40.09.  Kinnard also took first place in the 125-yard IM, collecting a winning time of 1:07.66. 

In the 75-yard breaststroke, Hans Anderson (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson), Joey Dombkowski (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) and Alex Capizzo (Fraser, Mich.) finished second, third and fourth, respectively.  Anderson posted a time of 43.35, Dombkowski got a 44.39 and Capizzo notched a 44.42. 

Relay Results
The Green and Gold won the 125-yard medley relay with a team of Kinnard, Anderson, Mueller and Cvetko.  The Warriors touched out in 54.36. 

In the 125-yard freestyle relay, the Warriors took the top two spots.  The winning team was comprised of Cvetko, Nowinski, Barstad, Mueller and Jones. They posted a time of 47.65. 

The second place team collected a 51.43 and consisted of Mahaney, Casey Dolen (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter), Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma), Capizzo and Ryan Kruger (Livonia, Mich. / Churchill). 

UP NEXT
The Warriors will get a chance at revenge when they take on the Wildcats on Nov. 6.  The meet is set to begin at 10 AM.
