Men's Swim and Dive Posts 137-106 Win At Calvin

The Warriors won 10 of the 13 events.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- As the regular season continues to wind down, the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team collected a late-season victory over Calvin. The Warriors defeated the Knights by a final score of 137-106.

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Sam Krahn (Dexter, Mich.) and Marko Vucelic (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) opened the meet with a first- and second-place finish in the 1000 free. Krahn had the winning time of 9:58.64, while Vucelic touched out in 10:37.11. In the next event, Kyle Lovas (Shepherd, Mich. / Alma) placed third in the 200 free, earning a time of 1:46.14.

In the 50 free, Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) finished first with a B-Cut time of 20.26. Alex Capizzo (Fraser, Mich.) and Chris Spencer (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi Catholic) took first and third, respectively, in the 200 IM. Capizzo touched out in 1:57.35, while Spencer had a time of 2:02.80.

Diving wise, Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) and Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) had strong showings. In the one-meter dive, Porter placed first with a score of 297.52, while Cottingham, Jr. earned second place, posting a 289.27. Cottingham, Jr. took second in the three-meter event with a score of 287.77 and Porter placed third, collecting a score of 283.12.

Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) earned a first-place finish in the 100 fly, touching out in 50.64. One event later, Franz Mueller (Brandenburg, Germany) and Cvetko placed first and second, respectively, in the 100 free. Both earned B-Cut times, as Muller posted a time of 44.61 and Cvetko touched out in 45.00.

In the 100 back, Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) earned first place, notching a time of 52.68. The 500 free was a strong event for the Warriors, as Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) took first (4:48.73) and Krahn took second (4:58.40). Capizzo and Joey Dombkowski (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) were first and third, respectively, in the 100 breast. Capizzo had a time of 59.19 and Dombkowski posted a time of 1:01.03.

RELAY RESULTS
The team of Cvetko, Kinnard, Wolsek and Jones touched out in first in the 200 medley relay. The quartet had a time of 1:33.96. The group of Spencer, Capizzo, Abdelrahman Hassan (Cairo, Egypt) and Collin Che (Midland, Mich. / Dow) collected third place with a time of 1:37.44.

In the 200 free relay, the Warriors finished second. The team of Wolsek, Noah Barstad (Allen, Park, Mich.), Jones and Mueller had a time of 1:23.31.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will stay on the road for a meet against Saginaw Valley State on Jan. 29. The meet is set to begin at 1 PM.
