Men's Swim and Dive Downs Ashland

The Warriors won 151-75.

ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Wayne State University men's swim and dive team had a strong performance yesterday afternoon at Ashland, downing the Eagles by a final score of 151-75. 

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Thomas Jackowski (Wroclaw, Poland) and Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) kicked things off by finishing first and second, respectively, in the 1650 free.  Jackowski had a time of 16:31.07 and Jones was right behind him with a time of 16:31.35.  Following that, Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.) and Collin Che (MIdland, Mich. / Dow) finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 free.  Kinnard touched out in 1:46.34 and Che earned a time of 1:49.53. 

Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) and Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) helped the Warriors earn more points by finishing first and second in the 50 free. Cvetko touched out in first, recording a time of 20.77.  Nowinski wasn't far behind him in second, registering a time of 21.30.  

In the 400 IM, Alex Duhaime (Harrison Township, Mich. / Macomb Dakota) claimed the top spot, touching the wall in 4:22.02.  Following that race, Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) and Jones earned the top two spots in the 100 fly.  Wolsek was first with a time of 49.72, while Jones came in second with a time of 53.78.

Diving wise, Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) and Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) were strong.  In the three-meter diving event, Porter earned the top spot with a score of 280.55.  Cottingham, Jr. was in second, posting a score of 256.20.  In the one-meter dive, Cottingham, Jr. was able to take first with a score of 254.65 and Poter claimed second by tallying a score of 248.20.  

The Warriors continued to dominate the meet, as they took the top two spots in the 100 free.  Cvetko finished first with a time of 47.46, while Nowinski touched out in second with a time of 48.21.  In the 100 back, Clayton Kinnard finished first with a time of 53.24. 

Jackowski and Marko Vucelic (Wixom, Mich. / Walled Lake Western) were strong in the 500 free, as that duo finished in the top two spots.  Jackowski was first, recording a time of 4:47.22, and Vucelic was second with a time of 4:58.21.  

RELAY RESULTS
To open the meet, the quartet of Kinnard, Joey Dombkowski (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central), Wolsek and Noah Barstad (Allen Park, Mich.) won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.05.

"We are definitely pushing ourselves with our workouts and our expectations at competitions, and I am really enjoying the camaraderie and performances of our Warriors!  I felt today was really positive with how everyone supported each other, and we saw some really good races and dives."

The Warriors will host Northern Michigan and Findlay in a tri-meet on Nov. 4 at 5 PM.
