Milovanski Among Fred Mitchell Award September Honorees List

Warrior kicker recognized for work on the field and in the community.

DETROIT -- Wayne State University sophomore place-kicker Griffin Milovanski (Saugatuck, Mich.) was one of eight NCAA Division II kickers recognized by the Fred Mitchell Award committee for his performance on the field in September.

The Fred Mitchell Award recognizes 29 place-kickers for their excellence on the football field and for continued community service during their off-season.  It is a pleasure to recognize kickers that were nominated by their schools for terrific performances for September 2022.

"It is with great pleasure that we kickoff the 2022 football season by presenting our Watch List for the annual Fred Mitchell Award," said Mitchell. "Many familiar names from the 2021 FCS, Div. II, Div. III, NAIA and community colleges top rankings appear on this list as we seek to acknowledge excellence in kicking and community service. At last check, there are kickers from 768 non-FBS colleges who will be competing for this prestigious award. Our 35-man selection committee will recognize outstanding performances each month throughout the football season before voting for a winner in December. Good luck to all for your efforts and dedication. Congratulations to all of the kickers who are off to a tremendous start this season. Our committee looks forward to recognizing even more players who exemplify our award's mission of superior kicking and community service."

The recipient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in mid-December based on performance on the football field and in the community. Details are provided at www.fredmitchellaward.com.

The breakdown of the 29 place-kickers is as follows:
· Collegiate Division – 10 FCS, 8 Division II, 8 Division III, 2 NAIA, and 1 NJCAA
· State – The place-kickers play at schools located in 18 different states
· Year – 2 Graduate Students, 6 Seniors, 9 Juniors, 11 Sophomores, and 1 Freshman

GRIFFIN MILOVANSKI
Redshirt sophomore from Saugatuck, Mich. is tied for the GLIAC lead with six made field goals after connecting on a 37-yard attempt vs. Northern Michigan (10/1) ... his 48 yard make in the win over Shaw is the longest in the GLIAC this season, and also earned him the GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week award ... he has the highest field goal percentage of anyone in the GLIAC (75% / 6-of-8) with at least five attempts ... he is 100% on PATs (10-of-10) this season and 34-of-37 for his career ... he leads the Warriors with 28 points in 2022 ... his 13 career made field goals ranks eighth in program history, while his 73 career points ranks 13th in school history among kickers.

In terms of community service: Griffin did 16 hours at Ronald McDonald house of charities in September purchasing food and cooking meals for families.  He has also helped with "Be the Match" getting people signed up and swabbing their mouth for possible matches on marrow and blood stem cells. In addition, Milovanski has helped teach and ref kids for a basketball game (Special Olympics).  He has helped with our football camp being a coach and making sure it ran smoothly.  Milovanski has done over 70 hours of community service during his time at WSU.
