DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's basketball squad (2-2 overall) won its second consecutive contest with an 83-77 triumph over visiting Tiffin University (0-4 overall) Sunday afternoon at the Wayne State Fieldhouse.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
The opening 20 minutes was back-and-forth with seven ties and nine lead changes.  A triple by freshman guard Carmelo Harris (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) with just over six minutes remaining until intermission knotted the score at 27 (for the seventh tie of the half).

After a steal by freshman center Bryce Esman (Metamora, Mich. / Oxford) led to a lay-up by junior Kaimen Lennox (Kansas City, Mo. / Truman HS) and a 29-27 lead.  Following a free throw by the Dragons, Lennox, Harris and senior forward Avery Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) scored consecutive baskets giving the hosts a 35-28 advantage.  Two foul shots by Tiffin ended the Warrior run, but Lewis had one of his four first half offensive rebounds and put back, before TU split a pair from the charity stripe.  Redshirt senior guard Antonio Marshall (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) drained a triple just before the first half ended giving Wayne State its largest lead at 40-31.

Second Half
A Harris jumper 62 seconds after halftime, extended the margin to 11 (42-31).  The Warriors led 46-37 following a pair of free throws by Marshall at the 16:24 mark.  Tiffin went on a 16-0 run over the next 4:16 to take a 53-46 lead.  The Dragons had their largest lead of the game at eight points (58-50) with 10:38 remaining following a conventional three-point play by TU's Joshua Rivers.

Four straight points by Lewis preceded a triple by junior guard Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) and two foul shots by Marshall, which gave the Warriors a 59-58 lead with 9:04 left.  Tiffin regained the lead on a triple by Trent Williams.  The game was tied at 61-61, 63-63, 65-65 and 67-67, the final tie coming on a offensive rebound and put-back by Lewis, which ignited a 7-0 spurt by WSU.  Williams, Jr. had the final five points of the run with a jumper and three-pointer.

Following a jumper by Tiffin's Morgan Taylor, Lewis made a pair from the charity stripe, then Williams made the second of two foul shots for a 75-69 lead with 1:39 remaining.  A lay-up by Lewis with just under a minute left preceded a lay-up by Dragon Carius Key, which made it a two possession game at 77-71.
