ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (2-3 overall) had its modest two-game winning streak come to an end with a 79-66 setback at Lewis University (3-1 overall) Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half
Freshman guard
Carmelo Harris (Flint, Mich. / Beecher) made all three free throws on the first possession of the game to give the visiting Warriors an early lead. Â The host Flyers evened the score at 7-7 at the 15:48 mark on a triple by Devon Vanderheydt.
After four lead changes over a four-minute span, WSU led 18-15 following a triple by Harris just before the mid-point of the half. Â Senior
Kylin Grant (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) extended the advantage to 21-15 with a triple at the 9:32 mark.
Lewis went on an 8-0 run before a jumper by senior
Antonio Marshall (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King)Â tied the game at 23-23. Â An offensive rebound and put-back by senior
Avery Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) put the Warriors in front 25-23 with just under five minutes left before intermission.
LU concluded the first half on a 10-0 spurt to lead 33-25 at the break.
Second Half
The Warriors scoreless streak continued for almost two minutes into the second half, until a jumper by Harris cut the Wayne State deficit to 10 points at 37-27.
A lay-up by
Avery Lewis at the 15:43 mark pulled WSU within seven (40-33), but LU's Vanderheydt connected from beyond the arc to regain the 10-point advantage.
The Flyers led by 18 (54-36) after a pair of foul shots by Anthony Sayles at the 12:12 mark.
Lewis increased its margin to 25 (64-39) with just over eight minutes remaining, before Wayne State ended the game on a 27-15 run.
TEAM STATS
Wayne State shot 49 percent (27-of-55) from the floor, compared to LU's 55 percent (31-of-56).  WSU was 6-of-14 (43 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Flyers were  5-of-14 (36 percent).  Both teams shot 60 percent from the charity stripe as the Warriors were 6-of-10 and Lewis was 12-of-20.
The Flyers had a 32-26 edge in rebounding, while Wayne State had 15 miscues compared to eight for Lewis.
LEADING THE WARRIORS
Harris tallied a game-high 19 points, which included four triples, with Lewis adding 16 points and a team-best seven rebounds. Â Junior
Kaimen Lennox (Kansas City, Mo. / Truman HS) dished out a team-high four assists.
LEADING THE FLYERS
Jamere Hill scored a team-best 13 points, while Vanderheydt made three triples in scoring 13 points. Â Vlado Zrnic grabbed a game-high nine boards.

Wayne State will be idle until beginning GLIAC play on Saturday, December 3rd at Saginaw Valley State.
