Men's Swim and Dive Splits with Northern Michigan and Findlay

The Warriors will swim in the Don Kimble Invitational, which runs from Nov. 18-20.

DETROIT -- On the second day of back-to-back meets against Northern Michigan and Findlay, the Wayne State University men's swimming and diving team split against the Oilers and Wildcats.  The Warriors upended Findlay 158-129 and lost to Northern Michigan 161-137. 

INDIVIDUAL RESULTS
Thomas Jackowski (Wroclaw, Poland) opened the individual portion of the meet with a second-place finish in the 1,000 free.  He tallied a time of 9:40.25.  Following that, Trevor Jones (Farmington, Mich.) finished second in the 200 free.  He posted a time of 1:41.83.  

In the 100 breast, Joey Dombkowski (Canton, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) was strong, as he finished third with a time of 59.37.  One event later, Jones was able to win the 200 fly, as he touched out in a time of 1:55.76. 

Luka Cvetko (Varazdin, Croatia) had the fastest time in the 50 free, recording a time of 20.50.  Cvetko was then able to grab second place in the 100 free, earning a time of 46.85. 

Jackowski was also strong in the 500 free, as he topped the field with a time of 4:40.97.  Michael Wolsek (Trenton, Mich.) and Cvetko finished third and fourth, respectively in the 100 fly.  Wolsek touched out in 50.67 and Cvetko registered a time of 50.95. 

To close out the individual events, Jones finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:08.00.  

Diving wise, Grant Porter (Haslett, Mich.) was able to post the top score in the three-meter event.  He tallied a score of 306.30.  In the one-meter competition, Andy Maiz (Northville, Mich.) and Jeffrey Cottingham, Jr. (Dearborn, Mich. / Edsel Ford) finished second and third, respectively.  Maiz earned a score of 455.40, while Cottingham posted a score of 449.70. 

RELAY RESULTS
To open the meet, Wayne State's foursome of Clayton Kinnard (Dexter, Mich.), Dombkowski, Wolsek and Stewart Nowinski (Macomb, Mich. / L'Anse Creuse North) finished fourth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:28.18. 

In the final event of the night, WSU's quartet of Wolsek, Nowinski, Cvetko and Jones edged the field by posting a time of 3:06.12 in the 400 free relay.

"I am very proud of our Warriors.  This weekend, we welcomed two very amazing and well-coached programs, and really did everything we could to compete against some of the very best.  We had a lot of great performances, and I do feel with the training and the bonding we are doing as a team, it is setting us up for success.  I was definitely pleased with this weekend, and definitely looking forward to our mid-season meet in two weeks."

The Warriors will take part in the Don Kimble Invitational, which will take place from Nov. 18-20 in Kentwood, Mich.
