Baseball Swept on Saturday

The teams will be on Sunday for game four of the series.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball program (26-12, 11-6 GLIAC) continued a four-game series at Northwood (23-15-1, 9-6 GLIAC) with a Saturday doubleheader and the Warriors lost both games.  WSU fell 7-3 in game one before dropping game two 13-3.

GAME ONE (L, 3-7)
HOW IT HAPPENED
Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) doubled with one out in the top of the first inning before scoring on an RBI single from Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.).  Northwood answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the second to take a 2-1 lead.

DeLanoy connected for his seventh home run of the season to tie him for the team high, while also tying the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning.

NU regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the third innings and added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, powered by four base hits.


Another RBI from DeLanoy in the seventh inning trimmed the deficit to 7-3.

AT THE PLATE
DeLanoy led the lineup by going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

ON THE MOUND
Karter Fitzpatrick (Monroe, Mich. / Carleton Airport) (5-1) was handed his first loss of the season after allowing five runs in four and 1/3 innings.

David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) gave up two runs in 2/3 of an inning and Joey Muzljakovich (Mayfield, Mich. / Traverse City St. Francis) did not allow a hit in his inning of relief.

GAME TWO (L, 3-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED

Khale Showers hit a solo home run to left in the bottom of the second inning to give the Timberwolves a 1-0 lead.

Another solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning pushed the home advantage to 2-0.

Two hits and a wild pitch allowed NU to extend its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning but a double play ended the threat.  The T-Wolves scored four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 7-0 lead.

Northwood scored six runs, including a Grand Slam to make it 13-0.

WSU loaded the bases in the top of the ninth after a walk to Jacob Badalamenti (Harrison Twp., Mich. / Warren De La Salle) and singles from Kyle Domzalski (Huntington Woods, Mich. / Berkley) and Logan Tobel (Brighton, Mich. / Hartland).  Davis Graham (Grosse Pointe, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) drove in a run with an RBI groundout and a two-run double from Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) made it 13-3 b ut that would bee the end of the scoring for both sides.

AT THE PLATE
Tanderys drove in two runs with WSU's only extra-base hit of the game.

ON THE MOUND
Seth Marano (Canton, Mich.) (2-2) allowed four runs over five innings with two strikeouts.  Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) gave up three runs in his inning out of the bullpen.

Chad Sommers (Jonesville, Mich.) was first out of the bullpen and allowed four runs in a 1/3 of an inning before Jacob Raymond (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) collected the final two outs of the seventh inning, allowing three runs.  Ryan Szlachcic (Jenison, Mich. / Hudsonville) worked around a hit and a walk in the eighth inning to not allow a run.

WSU will attempt to salvage a game from the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
