Baseball Sweeps Parkside on Tuesday

The Warriors won by a combined score of 22-2.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University baseball team (17-8, 4-2 GLIAC) played a pair of makeup games vs. Parkside (2-18, 1-5 GLIAC) on Tuesday and the Warriors swept the Opening Day doubleheader.  WSU took game one 12-0 and won game two 10-2.  WSU were the visitors on the scoreboard as the Rangers were originally set to host the Warriors on March 25-27.  The teams will finish their series on May 4-5 in Kenosha, Wis.

GAME ONE (W, 12-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Warriors scored seven runs six hits, including three doubles, in the top of the third inning. Ryan Foley (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Saline) started the scoring with a sacrifice fly before Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) drove in a run with an error on the same play allowing a second run to cross.  Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) double home WSU's fourth run of the game.  Rudy Ramirez (Brighton, Mich.) and Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) posted back-to-back doubles extending the home advantage to 7-0.

Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) plated two runs with a double to left field in the top of the fourth.

The Warriors' lead grew to 10-0 on an RBI double from Foley.  Two more runs crossed on a single from DeLanoy.

AT THE PLATE
DeLanoy went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) also posted a three-hit game.  Tanderys led the way with three RBI.

ON THE MOUND
Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) (3-0) struck out seven batters over five shutout innings.  He allowed two hits and walked a pair.  Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) worked the final two frames and did not allow a hit.

GAME TWO (W, 10-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED

The Green & Gold scored first in game two on an RBI groundout by Tanderys in the top of the second inning.

The Rangers answered with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning.

Jacoby Dale (Roseville, Mich.) made it 2-2 game with an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning.  the rally continued as a fielder's choice RBI from Foley gave WSU the lead.  A bases-loaded hit-by-pitch plus a wild pitch allowed two more runs to score.

Wayne State added five runs on four hits in the top of the fifth inning.  Finkbeiner double home a run before Miller made it 7-2 with an RBI single up the middle.  The scoring continued with an infield RBI single by DeLanoy.  Tanderys picked up an easy RBI drawing a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch allowed the 10th run of the contest to score.

AT THE PLATE
Finkbeiner had a huge day at the plate and finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Dale collected a multiple-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

ON THE MOUND
Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) started and allowed two runs in three innings with six strikeouts. David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) (1-0) was first out of the bullpen and did not allow a run in three innings if relief.  He struck out three batters.

Joey Muzljakovich (Mayfield, Mich. / Traverse City St. Francis) struck out four batters in two innings and Jimmy Love (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) finished the game by working the ninth inning and did not allow a run with two punch outs.


UP NEXT
WSU will host Saginaw Valley State on Friday at 3:00 p.m. to start a four-game series at Harwell Field.
