Men's Tennis Dominates Michigan Tech

The Warriors won every match in singles and doubles.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (16-4 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) continued its dominant stretch of tennis, defeating Michigan Tech (0-9 overall, 0-4 overall) 7-0 on Saturday afternoon.

SINGLES
Dom Spicer (London, England) was tough to deal with at No. 1 singles, getting by his opponent with ease, 6-0, 6-0.

Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles.

Daniel Grey (Wiesbaden, Germany) had a quick match, posting a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles.

Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) only dropped one game throughout his match, pulling off a 6-0, 6-1 victory.

Playing at No. 6 singles, Luke Laws (Sunderland England) handled his opponent, 6-0, 6-1.

Finally, at No. 2 singles, Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) recorded a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

DOUBLES
Coach Bryan Morrow decided to shake up the lineup, putting Laws and Donovan Nguyen (Shelby Township, Mich. / Utica) at No. 3 doubles.  That duo proved to be a force, downing their opponent 6-0.  Nguyen received the team's game ball, which is given to the player who competed the best throughout the match.

At No. 1 doubles, Drenth and Grey continued their strong season, as they collected a 6-2 win.

Karcz and Lakeman finished doubles off with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 doubles.

FROM COACH MORROW
"The Warriors had a good day on the court today.  Changed some things in the doubles lineup to get Donovan (Nguyen) a chance to play as a senior.  He played No. 3 doubles with Luke (Laws), and they won 6-0.  Donovan played amazing.  Hardly missed a shot the whole match.  He played great," Morrow said.  "Cedric and Daniel up at No. 1 played clean, played well.  They served very well.  No. 2 doubles, Ben Lakeman and Niklas (Karcz) played pretty well.  Played against a good team."

"Dom played super focused, super well.  Ben Lakeman played a nice player.  First set, they traded blows a little bit.  Then Ben won the second set comfortably.  Niklas played very well the whole match, as did Daniel Grey, Cedric (Drenth) and Luke (Laws).  They all did what they had to do.  The team looked good."
