Baseball Eliminated from GLIAC Tournament

The Warriors lost twice on Saturday to Purdue Northwest and Davenport.

GARY, Ind. --  The second-seeded Wayne State University baseball program (35-17) were eliminated from the 2022 GLIAC Tournament on Saturday night with an 8-5 loss to top-seed Davenport (33-21).  The event was played at the U.S. Steel Yard, home of the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers scored twice in the bottom of the first inning on three hits and a walk.

The Warriors tied the game with two runs in the top of the third inning on one hit and three walks.  Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) doubled down the left field line to begin the frame and Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) plated WSU's first run with an RBI groundout.  Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) scored on a passed ball later in the inning.

DU was quick to answer and scored twice in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run single.

Miller trimmed the Green & Gold deficit to 4-3 with an RBI groundout in the top of the sixth inning.

Two hits and a walk allowed Davenport to add on two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to extend its advantage to 6-3.  An RBI double in the bottom of the seventh made it 7-3.

Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) singled with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.  He and Miller came around to score on a two-run single by Tanderys.

Once again, the Panthers had a response, scoring a run on one hit and two walks in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Wayne State went down in order in the ninth to finish the affair.

AT THE PLATE
Tanderys posted a three-hit game with two RBI, while DeLanoy went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

ON THE MOUND
Nicholas O'Dea (Livonia, Mich. / Detroit Catholic Central) (3-4) allowed five runs on six hits in five and a 1/3 innings with five walks and five strikeouts.

Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) pitched an inning and a 1/3, allowing two runs, before David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) was touched for a run in 2/3 of an inning.  Kaden Stively (Washington, Mich. / Romeo) worked the final 2/3 of an inning and struck out two.
