The Warriors will open the season on Saturday, Sept. 3rd at perennial national power Slippery Rock.  The Rock went 9-1 before falling in the PSAC Championship game, 38-32, to Kutztown and dropping a 33-25 contest at Notre Dame College in the first round of the NCAA Division 2 playoffs.  This will be the first of two consecutive years that WSU will play at Slippery Rock since SRU traveled to Motown in 2019 and 2021.

WSU returns to Detroit to start a four-game home stand as the Shaw Bears visit Tom Adams Field on Sept. 10 for the first-ever football meeting between the schools.  Shaw went 6-4 in 2021, including two three-game win streaks.  The Bears allowed more than 14 points just twice during the 2021 campaign.  Shaw's trip to Detroit will mark the first visit by an HBCU school to Midtown Detroit since Central State traveled to the 313 in 1985.  The Marauders also played at WSU in 1970, 1971 and 1972.  In addition, Kentucky State (1974 and 1984) and Howard University (1975) are the only other HBCU schools to play Wayne State.

Wayne State will entertain NCAA Division 3 powerhouse the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Sept. 17th in a 6 p.m. kick-off.  The Eagles went 9-3 this past fall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division 3 playoffs.

The Warriors will play Grand Valley State twice during the upcoming 2022 campaign with the first meeting in Detroit being a non-conference affair.  The Lakers travel to Motown for a September 24th match-up.

The following week, WSU begins GLIAC play with a home contest vs. Northern Michigan.  The Warriors had won five straight home games against the Wildcats until a 34-24 setback on Nov. 3, 2018.

Wayne State's first road league contest will be Oct. 8th at Michigan Tech.  WSU has compiled a 9-7 mark at Sherman Field.  The last four meetings in Houghton have been decided by a combined 21 points.

The Warriors continue on the road on Oct. 15th with a match-up at Davenport.  Wayne State has won all three previous meetings at DU by a combined 84-30.

WSU will host Saginaw Valley State on Oct. 22nd for the final game of October as the Warriors will be idle the following weekend.

Wayne State will travel to Grand Valley State on Nov. 5th, before concluding the regular season with a home contest against defending national champion Ferris State University on Nov. 12th.
