WSU will play four non-conference games in September, including a home non-GLIAC affair vs. GVSU on September 24th, before embarking on the GLIAC regular-season schedule with the annual Homecoming contest at Adams Field against Northern Michigan on October 1st.

The 2022 season opener will have a 6 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, September 3rd as the Warriors visit Slippery Rock.

Wayne State will have six home games in 2022 starting with the home opener vs. Shaw on September 10th.  Wisconsin-La Crosse visits Motown on September 17th, followed by the aforementioned contests vs. the Lakers and the Wildcats.  After back-to-back road trips to Michigan Tech (October 8th) and Davenport (October 15th), the Warriors will entertain Saginaw Valley on October 22nd.  After a bye week, WSU travels to GVSU for a November 5th match-up, while the regular-season finale has the defending national champion Ferris State Bulldogs coming to Detroit.

The Warriors are looking to bounce back from a 2-5 GLIAC record in 2021, along with a 2-9 overall mark.  In seven of the setbacks, WSU either led or had the ball for the go-ahead possession in the second quarter or later in the contest.

In the season opener vs. Slippery Rock, Wayne State had the ball on the SRU three-yard line with 0:30 remaining and lost 24-21.  In the non-conference tilt at Missouri S&T, the host Miners had to kick a 40-yard field goal on the last play of regulation to send the game into overtime which MST won 51-45.  In the GLIAC opener at Northern Michigan, WSU let a 19-0 lead evaporate as the host Wildcats scored the final 26 points.

Against Michigan Tech, the Warriors led 27-20 in the third quarter before the Huskies connected on a 26-yard field goal on the final play of the game to claim a 30-27 win over WSU.  In the GLIAC match-up at Saginaw Valley, Wayne State led 10-0 after the first period.  In the home finale against GVSU, WSU had a 10-7 advantage 20 minutes into the contest.  In the season finale at Ferris State, the Warriors trailed 7-6 at intermission.
