Softball Signs Two D1 Transfers

Lewandowski and Peru help strengthen the Warriors for 2023.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University softball program has signed two Division 1 transfers to bolster the lineup for 2023.  Joining the Warriors this fall are catcher/utility Kiley Lewandowski (Ypsilanti, Mich. / Lincoln / Kent State) and third baseman Taryn Peru (Bath, Mich. / Detroit Mercy).

"I am looking forward to adding the experience and depth that Taryn and Kiley will bring to our program," commented second-year head coach Nicole Tines.  "Adding two players to our team, who have been exposed to and understand what it takes to compete at the college level is very valuable.  Not only do Taryn and Kiley bring some offensive strengths to our lineup, but they both possess qualities that will complement our program on and off the field.

Kiley Lewandowski, Jr., C/UT, 5-4, R/R, Ypsilanti, Mich. / Lincoln (Kent State)
2022:  Appeared in 15 games for Kent State, making four starts (3 at C, and 1 at DP) ... had an RBI single at Howard (2/26), while also catching the fifth perfect game in program history ... went 1-for-3 in a win at Purdue Fort Wayne (3/29) ... smacked a pinch-hit three-run double in a win at Toledo (4/23) ... picked off a Long Island runner at first in the top of the seventh of a tie game (2/11) ... recorded a fielding assist as a second baseman in a loss at #19-Michigan (3/10) ... notched a pinch-hit single at Indiana (3/30), and also garnered a fielding assist as a second baseman ... named to the Dean's List for the Spring term ... received the Mid-American Conference Commissioner's Award for having a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher ... earned MAC Honor Roll accolades.

2021:  Appeared in seven games for the Golden Flashes, making three starts all as a DP ... first collegiate hit came vs. Buffalo (4/20) ... made collegiate debut as a pinch-hitter at #2-Alabama (3/5) ... named to the Dean's List for the Spring term ... earned MAC Honor Roll accolades.

High School:  A 2020 graduate of Ypsilanti Lincoln High School ... was a three-year varsity letterwinner for the Railsplitters (would have been four except senior season in 2020 was cancelled due to COVID) ... helped the squad to back-to-back district titles in 2017 and 2018 ... batted .361 as a freshman and .455 as a sophomore ... hit .523 as a junior in 2019 with 40 RBI, 16 doubles, two triples and three home runs ... named to the 2019 Ann Arbor Dream Team ... earned All-District recognition each of her three playing seasons ... served as a multi-year team captain ... was a four-year Southeastern Conference Scholar-Athlete Award recipient ... also competed in volleyball for YLHS ... selected Lincoln High School Female Athlete of the Year as a senior ... was a member of the National Honor Society ... played summer ball for the Bandits and coaches Greg Blevins and Scott Sheppard.

Personal:  Full name-- Kiley B. Lewandowski ... born on February 5, 2002, in Ypsilanti ... daughter of Brian and Juanita Lewandowski ... has a younger brother, Andon, and two sisters, Madison and Payton ... plans to major in Political Science (Pre-Law).

Taryn Peru, R-Sr., 3B, 5-3, R/R, Bath, Mich. (Detroit Mercy)
Peru UDM Notes:  Was a four-time member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll (Fall 2019, Winter 2020, Fall 2020, and Winter 2021) ... earned Detroit Mercy Athletic Director's Honor Roll recognition in 2019, 2020 and 2021 ... played in 72 career games, making 66 starts (33 at 3B, 12 at SS, 9 at DP, 6 at 1B, and 6 at C) ... batted .263 (45-for-171) with six doubles and seven home runs ... drove in 27 runs ... walked 16 times for a .335 on-base percentage ... had an .890 fielding percentage (119 PO, 59 A, 22 E).

2022:  Started all 42 games (26 at 3B, 12 at SS, and 4 at C) ... batted third through seventh in the lineup, but usually third (16 times) or fifth (10 times)  ... led the squad with eight multiple-hit games, including a three-hit affair at Purdue Fort Wayne (4/15) ... had a team-high four multiple-RBI contests, including three RBI at Bowling Green (4/12) ... concluded the year with a season-best five-game hitting streak (4/30-5/7, .438, 7-for-16) with a double, a home run, and five RBI ... posted a nine-game on-base streak (3/17-4/1, .333, 8-for-24 with three walks) ... had a UDM season-best two sac bunts at Youngstown State (3/10) ... batted a team-high .289 (33-for-114) with three doubles, four home runs and a team-best 17 RBI ... walked 10 times for a .354 on-base percentage ... recorded 48 total bases for a .421 slugging percentage ... scored a career-best 11 runs.

2021:  Did not play in any of the Titans four games.

2020:  Played in 21 of 23 contests for Detroit Mercy, making 19 starts (9 at DP, 5 at 1B, 3 at 3B, and 2 at C) ... posted a season-best four-game hitting streak (3/4-3/7, .364, 4-for-11) ... drilled a home run in three-straight games going deep at #22 Arizona State and versus Illinois State with solo blasts, before smacking a three-run home run vs. #10-Kentucky (2/16) ... batted .224 (11-for-49) for the shortened season (due to COVID) with nine RBI along with three doubles and three home runs ... walked five times for a .296 on-base percentage ... totaled 26 bases for a .531 slugging percentage.

2019:  Played in nine games for the Titans as a true freshman, making five starts (4 at 3B, and 1 at 1B) ... first collegiate hit and RBI came as a pinch-hitter in game one vs. Youngstown State (4/6) ... batted .125 (1-for-8) for the season with a walk and a hit by pitch for a .300 on-base percentage ... also had a sac bunt in game two against YSU.

High School:  A 2018 graduate of Bath High School ... was a four-year letterwinner for coach Darren Buck ... helped the Fighting Bees to a district title as a junior ... earned All-Central Michigan Athletic Conference honors ... served as a team captain ... also competed in basketball for BHS ... was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Government ... played summer ball for Finesse Fastpitch and coach Greg Blevins.
