Women's Track and Field Adds Three Transfers

Hansen, Smith and Thomas enrolled at WSU this semester.

DETROIT -- With the women's indoor track and field season just over a month away, we will be doing stories on the newcomers over the next couple of weeks.

This article is about the three transfers who joined the squad this fall.  They are junior Peyton Hansen (Freeland, Mich.), sophomore Annabelle Smith (Blissfield, Mich.), and redshirt freshman Keneisha Thomas (Madison Heights, Mich. / Lamphere).

2022-23:
  Attended Siena Heights for the fall semester.

2021-22:  Participated in six outdoor meets, including the WHAC (Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) Championship meet strictly in the javelin ... recorded a personal-best toss in the javelin of 29.28m at the Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational ... placed eighth in the javelin at the WHAC meet with a throw of 28.67m.

2020-21:  Competed in four outdoor meets, including the WHAC championship meet ... participated in both the 800m run and javelin ... set a personal-best in the 800m run with a time of 2:36.17 at the conference meet ... notched a season-best throw of 26.98m at the Concordia Legacy Invitational.

High School:  A 2020 graduate of Freeland High School ... also attended West Branch Ogemaw Heights High School for two years ... earned 12 varsity letters during prep career (four each in basketball and track, three in cross country, and one in swimming) ... ran a 20:19.8 at the 2019 MHSAA Division 2 Cross Country state meet to place 96th (66th in team scoring) ... ran a 20:55.8 at the 2018 state meet to place 139th (95th in team scoring) ... competed at the 2019 MHSAA Division 2 state track meet in the 4x800m relay (senior year was cancelled due to COVID) ... ran the leadoff leg on the 4x800m relay for OHHS at the 2017 MHSAA Division 2 state track meet ... even competed in high jump and long jump during high school career ... was a member of the National Honor Society ... Athletic.net Results.

Hansen ... born on May 29, 2001, in West Branch, Mich. ... daughter of Tim and Pam Hansen ... both parents were track athletes at Central Michigan ... has a younger brother, T.J., and a younger sister, Kiera ... Kiera runs cross country and track at Eastern Michigan ... plans to major in History.

Annabelle Smith, 5-4, So., Sprints/Jumps, Blissfield, Mich. / Blissfield (Willamette)
2022-23:
  Competed for Division 3 Williamette University in Salem, Oregon.  INDOOR:  Competed in two meets ... posted the squad's top 60m dash time at 8.08 at the Whitworth Invitational ... recorded a season-best mark of 5.31m in the long jump at the George Fox Indoor.  OUTDOOR:  Participated in six meets ... was a member of the third-place 4x100m relay at the conference championship meet (Northwest Conference) ... placed third in the long jump with a season-best mark of 5.27m ... notched a season-best time of 12.62 for 100m dash (wind 3.3) at the Oregon State High Performance Meet.

High School:  A 2022 graduate of Blissfield High School ... earned three varsity letters in track (2019, 2021 and 2022) since 2020 season was cancelled due to COVID ... competed in the finals of the MHSAA Division 3 long jump as a freshman after winning regionals ... won the 2021 Division 3 state long jump title with a distance of 18-01.50, then placed second as a senior ... finished second in the 100m dash (12.66) and third in the 200m dash (25.75) in 2022 at the state meet ... recorded a time of 12.32 in the 100m prelims and 25.36 in the 200m prelims ... served as a team captain ... graduated Magna Cum Laude ... competed during the summer for Toledo Elite.

2022-2023: 
 Attended Michigan State University, but was not a member of the track squad.

High School:  A 2022 graduate of Madison Heights Lamphere High School ... was a three-year track letterwinner for the Rams (since 2020 season was canceled due to COVID) ... finished second at the 2022 MHSAA Division 2 state track meet in the 300m hurdles with a time of 46.39 ... ran the third leg on the fourth place 4x100m relay ... competed in two events at the 2021 state track meet - sixth place 4x100m relay and the seventh place 4x200m relay ... participated in the 4x100m relay at the 2019 state track meet (no meet held in 2020 due to COVID) ... also played basketball earning team MVP honors.

Personal:  Full name -- Keneisha J. Thomas ... born on August 8, 2004, in Detroit ... daughter of LaKiesha Thomas and Kenneth Floyd ... has an older brother, Jamal, and two sisters, Chantel and Harmony ... plans to major in Biology or Psychology.
