DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (10-15 overall, 5-9 GLIAC) hosted Saginaw Valley State (4-21 overall, 1-13 GLIAC) on Halloween night and took care of the Cardinals in straight sets.
COACH KOTH
"It was a nice performance by the Warriors on Halloween with the exception of a small segment in set two. We played consistently in all facets of the game. There were some solid offensive performances from Molly (Miller), Kayla (Giroux) and Alexa (Withun).
HOW IT HAPPENED (-13, -24, -15)
- Saginaw Valley State took the lead first and was up by two, 3-1, before Wayne State answered with 11 of the next 14 points for a six-point advantage, 12-6.
- From there until the end of the set, the Cardinals never got closer than five and the Warriors' lead ballooned to as big as 12.
- The second period was the closest as it saw a combined 12 ties and seven lead changes.
- The visitors deadlocked it for the 12th time at 23-23 before the home team rattled off three of the ensuing four scores.
- WSU opened the third stanza with a 5-0 spurt and never really looked back.
- SVSU cut the margin to four twice (5-1, 6-2), but the Warriors went out in front by as many as 10.
