Swimming and Diving Teams Travel to Northern Michigan

The Warriors are ready for their first of three GLIAC regular season duals.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in Marquette on Saturday for a dual meet with Northern Michigan.  Action inside the Wildcats' Physical Education Instructional Facility (PEIF) Pool is set to begin at 10 a.m.

NATIONAL SPOTLIGHT
WSU comes in ranked No. 17 nationally on the women's side while the men's team received 15 votes in the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Coaches Poll.  In that same poll, NMU is slotted in seventh for the women and 14th for the men.  In last season's GLIAC Championships, Northern's men placed second while the women finished in third.

LAST TIME OUT
Wayne State faced Ashland and Davenport for its 2023-24 home opener on Oct. 27.  The men defeated the Eagles and Panthers with scores of 148-84 and 132-100, respectively.  The Warrior women took care of business as well outscoring AU and DU with totals of 182-53 and 135.5-98.5, respectively.  The men took first place in nine events while the women were on top for eight of them.

GLIAC MEN'S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
Khalil Ben Ajmia (Tunis, Tunisia / Lycée Pierre De Coubertin) was named GLIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week on Monday after winning both the 500 free and 1000 free against Ashland and Davenport, breaking both Matthaei pool records in the process.  In his first ever collegiate meet, Ben Ajmia touched the wall in 4:31.65 for the 500 free and 9:18.80 for the 1000 free.  Kevin Coates of Lewis held both the previous marks, including 4:32.76 in the 500 and 9:22.28 in the 1000.
