MARQUETTE, Mich. -- In its final GLIAC road match of the regular season, the Wayne State University volleyball team (10-17 overall, 5-11 GLIAC) fell to Northern Michigan (11-16 overall, 8-8 GLIAC) in four sets on Saturday inside Vandament Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED (20-25, -21, 20-25, 27-29)
- Northern Michigan came out hot in the first with its best hitting percentage of the match at .310 (11 kills, 2 errors, 29 total attacks).
- Wayne State answered with its best clip at .313 in the second (14 kills, 4 errors, 32 total attacks).
- In that second set, the Warriors trailed by two, 20-18, before coming back to win it thanks to a 7-1 run.
- Both teams registered an identical offensive efficiency of .143 in the third.
- However, the Wildcats came back from being down 18-13 with 12 of the final 14 scores to take a 2-1 match advantage.
- The fourth stanza saw a combined 11 ties and three lead changes.
- Five of those 11 deadlocks came in the set's final 11 total points scored, all of which were forced by Wayne State.
- Once it was 27-27, Northern Michigan's Jacqueline Smith sent home back-to-back kills to seal it for her squad.
LEADING THE WARRIORS
- Dulgar reached the 50-assist plateau for the fourth time this season and fourth time in her last six matches.
- Saturday against Northern Michigan was the first of those four times she did it in just four sets.
ONE BIG THING
- Wayne State (.248 hitting percentage) lost for just the second time this season when hitting at least .240 as a team (10-2 record). The Warriors also dropped only the second match in which they recorded a higher hitting percentage than their opponent (9-2 record).
