CANTON, Ohio -- Playing their final tournament of the 2022-23 regular season, the Wayne State University women's golf team placed third out of 12 teams at Walsh's Cavalier Classic on Monday-Tuesday at Glenmoor Country Club. The Warriors finished with a two-day score of 650 (+74, 333-317) and now set their sights on the GLIAC Championship on Friday-Sunday at Stonehedge North Golf Course in Augusta, Mich.
Individually, Wayne State was paced by
Avery Howard (Muskegon, Mich. / Reeths-Puffer) in a tie for sixth with a 156 (+12, 77-79). Howard was joined in the top 15 by
Sabel Imesch (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. / Grosse Pointe South) in 11th with a 158 (+14, 79-79). Also among the top 25 for the Warriors was
Beca Vestman (Madrid, Spain / Colegio Base) in a tie for 21st with a 163 (+19, 85-78). Rounding out the scoring for WSU was
Maisarah Hezri (Sungai Petani, Kedah, Malaysia) in a tie for 39th with a 173 (+29, 92-81).
The final two student-athletes competing for Wayne State were
Natalie Groom (Orangevale, Calif. / El Camino Fundamental) in a tie for 59th with a 183 (+39, 93-90) and
Orianna Bylsma (Montague, Mich. / Montague) in 63rd with a 186 (+42, 89-97).
The Warriors were ranked seventh in the NCAA East Region according to the rankings released on Thursday, April 13.
Fifteen (15) teams in the east, nine (9) teams in the central, and twelve (12) teams in the south and west regions; along with six individuals, not on those teams, will compete at regionals. Selections for the NCAA Regionals will be announced on Monday, May 1.
