Two Track Student-Athletes Earn All-Region Honors From USTFCCCA

Sumrall and Williams recognized for top-five performances in the region.

USTFCCCA -- Two members of the Wayne State University women's outdoor track and field squad received All-Region recognition from the USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) as announced by the organization.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-three ranked relay team.

Garnering All-Region accolades for WSU were senior sprinter Makayla Sumrall (Roseville, Mich.) in the 100m dash, and senior multis Mikayla Williams (St. Charles, Mich.) in the triple jump.

Sumrall ran an 11.64 in the 100m dash finals at the GLIAC Championships, which was the fourth-fastest time in the Midwest Region.

Williams recorded a mark of 11.92m (39-01.25) at the Oakland Elaine Leigh Invitational, which ranked fourth in the region.

The 4x400m relay quartet of freshman Elyse Miller (Woodhaven, Mich. / Gibraltar Carlson), sophomore Renae Kutcha (Jackson, Mich. / Lumen Christi), freshman Avery Wilson (Davison, Mich.) and sophomore Makenzie Wellner (Menominee, Mich.) just missed All-Region honors with the fourth-fastest time (3:48.25) in the region.

Even though Wayne State does not "officially" sponsor men's track, senior Ransom Allen (Ithaca, Mich.) received All-Regions honors for the 5,000m
