DETROIT -- The nationally ranked Wayne State University men's (No. 20) and women's (No. 14) swimming and diving programs will conclude their 2023-24 regular season schedule on Saturday at Division III Calvin (No. 9 men, No. 15 women). Action inside the Knights' Venema Aquatic Center will get underway at 1 p.m.
"Well, here we are on the eve of our last dual meet for the 2023-24 season, and I appreciate the competitive fire and spirit of this swimming and diving program," said head coach
Sean Peters. "This semester has been a real challenge for the team, and I expect that Calvin, a very highly-ranked and respected program in Division III, will be a very tough matchup. But we are getting stronger every time out. This Warrior program is extremely competitive and resilient, and I know we are looking at one more opportunity to compete and try to perform at a high level against a well-coached program, and to put up some strong performances before the GLIAC Championships in two weeks."
Like Wayne State, Calvin is coached by a seasoned veteran in 28th-year man Dan Gelderloos. Combined, Gelderloos has led the Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving programs to 23 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championship including 17 on the women's side and six on the men's side. He has also led the Calvin men's team to a pair of top-10 national team finishes. He has led the women's program to five top-10 national team finishes.
The Knights' head diving coach is Anne Williamson. Those two are assisted by Chris Sullivan, Mitch Schroder, Jake Boender and Helena Tolic.
