Swim & Dive Teams to Compete on Friday and Saturday

Wayne State will be in action for the first time in nearly a month.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams are back in action this week.  Friday, divers from both squads will travel to Pennsylvania for Clarion's Don Leas Invite at 5 p.m. inside Tippin Natatorium.  Then on Saturday, while the Warriors' female swimmers are hosting Hillsdale at 11 a.m., the men's and women's divers will stay put for the Clarion Fall Classic at 12 p.m.

"We are very excited to host Hillsdale this weekend," said head coach Sean Peters.  "They have quite a few talented athletes, and are very well coached.  I believe they return two NCAA qualifiers on their program, and are usually one of the higher ranked G-MAC squads.  It will be a very good way for our ladies to return to swimming after our competition last month."

"I am also very excited about competing at Clarion," added Peters.  "I am definitely enjoying seeing the progress of our returning divers with John (Martin), Max (Wasiniak) and Wen (Wadsworth-Curcuru), and this will be the first college meet for Alicia (Viaches), Zoe (Wood) and Ella (Murawski).  Julio (Osuna) is no stranger to college meets and it will be exciting to see how he does, and all of them, as they Represent the 313!"

While Peters has begun his 28th season at the helm for Wayne State, Clarion and Hillsdale (women only) are led by a pair of seasoned veterans as well.  The Golden Eagles enter their seventh season under two-time PSAC Swimming Coach of the Year, Brehan Kelley, while the Chargers are coached by 17th-year man, Kurt Kirner.  Diving wise, Jason Trout calls the shots for the WSU and Heath Calhoun does for Clarion while the Hillsdale women only swim.

As mentioned above, the women's home opener inside the Matthaei Natatorium gets underway at 11 a.m. with a live stream available HERE.  Friday (5 p.m.) and Saturday (12 p.m.) at Clarion, the Golden Eagles' will have a live stream available as well, right HERE.
