Women's Fencing Has Strong Showing at Danosi Open

Four Warriors collected top three finishes in events on Saturday, which WSU hosted inside the Matthaei.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University fencing program hosted the annual Danosi Open on Saturday, February 10, inside the Matthaei building.  WSU ended the day with four women's fencers in the top three for an event, led by Salma Abdrabou (Mohandessin, Egypt) claiming the overall win in the Senior Women's Epee.

Six events were contested over the course of the day for women's fencers, including the Senior Mixed Foil, Senior Women's Sabre, Senior Women's Epee, Senior Mixed Sabre, Women's Foil, and Senior Mixed Epee.  The Green and Gold also celebrated the collegiate careers of Ramadan Dinkins (Chicago, Ill. / GCE Lab School) and Ahmed Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt) on Senior Day.

WSU student-athletes competed with several others as individuals, with no team competitions held.  The event was open to any USA Fencing member born in 2010 or earlier.

The Danosi Open once again honored its namesake, Istvan Danosi, who was the fencing coach at WSU from 1958 through 1982.
