DETROIT -- After being named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in his career on Monday,
Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) was recognized as National Pitcher of the Week by both D2 Baseball Insider and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).
Last Thursday in Wayne State's 4-0 victory over Purdue Northwest in Auburndale, Fla., Kilander notched his second career complete game and didn't surrender a hit until one out had been recorded in the eighth inning. The junior hurler struck out 14 Pride batters, tied for the most by a Warrior pitcher in the last 23 years. Kilander faced just one batter over the minimum and didn't walk a single batter. That effort lowered his season ERA to 2.63 as he improved to 4-0 this spring.
Kilander and his teammates (11-6 overall) will open GLIAC play on Saturday at 2 p.m. with a neutral doubleheader against Davenport in Hammond, Ind.
