CSC -- Wayne State University redshirt junior women's tennis standout
Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France / Enfants-Nantais (Keiser)) has been voted College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-American of the Year for the Division II Women's Tennis program.
In addition to being a First Team Academic All-American, Ruyssen becomes the third WSU student-athlete in the 72-year history of the CSC (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-America program to be voted Academic All-American of the Year. She joins Cedric Drenth in 2023 for men's tennis as well as women's swimming Hall of Fame member Catherine Leix in 2012 for the women's at-large category.
A 2023 CSC Third Team Academic All-American and two-time GLIAC Player of the Year (2022 & 2024), Ruyssen has compiled a 3.78 cumulative GPA while majoring in Management. This season, she led No. 16 Wayne State (21-6 overall, 7-0 GLIAC) to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals (second straight season), NCAA Midwest Regional crown, GLIAC Tournament title and GLIAC Regular-Season Championship.
A three-time First Team All-GLIAC honoree (2022, 2023, and both singles and doubles in 2024), Ruyssen put together a 20-9 No. 1 singles record and 26-13 No. 1 doubles ledger for the Warriors when paired with
Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland / Sopocka (Sopot) Tennis Academy) this season. Ruyssen finished her 2023-24 campaign ranked No. 3 in the region for singles and No. 30 nationally according to the ITA. Doubles wise, her and Komar were slotted first in the Midwest and 18th in the country.
In her three seasons for the Green & Gold, Ruyssen has accumulated a singles record of 66-22, including 54-17 in the No. 1 slot, and a doubles mark of 70-31, 49-24 in the top entry. Those 66 singles wins are good for seventh in program history, while the 70 doubles victories put her in eighth place.
Academically, Ruyssen has twice received GLIAC All-Academic Excellence Team recognition to go with a pair of ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete distinctions. The France native has been named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) five times and the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) once.
