Women's Indoor Track & Field Has Solid Performances At Bill Clinger Invite

Justice wins 3,000m run in NCAA Provisional and school record time.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- Over 30 members of the Wayne State University women's indoor track and field squad competed on Friday in the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University. One school record and three other all-time top-10 marks were set led by senior Reagan Justice's NCAA Provisional time in the 3,000m run (9:45.20), which also broke her school record from two years ago by over five seconds. In addition to her national ranking in the 3,000m run, Justice is currently 12th nationally in the 5,000m run with a time she set back in December.

Freshman Megan Zahnow posted the fourth-best 60m hurdles time in program history, while senior Makenzie Wellner notched the ninth-fastest 400m dash time in the WSU annals. Graduate student Taylor Hopkins, who set the 1,000m school record a week ago, recorded the 10th-fastest mile time in Warrior history.

WSU's 4x400m relay (Wilson, Kutcha, Wellner, Miller) is currently ranked 21st nationally with a time set back in December. Freshman Olivia Findlay is tied-for-26th nationally in the high jump with her season-best mark set back in December.

"We came out with some personal records and very good performances, but there were some struggles in this meet as well. It's all part of the process of getting better throughout the season, and we will go back to work and focus on improvement in our upcoming meets.

"Reagan picked up right where she left off in December, knocking another school record off the list. Her win in the 3K was impressive as she led nearly the entire race by a wide margin. The rest of the 3K racers followed suit, with Robin notching a win in heat 2, and Aubrey, Emilee, Mattie, Annalee, and Natalie all racing well and making it a PR sweep for the Warriors.

"On the sprints and hurdles side, Emmanuela, Lauren, Rachel O, Megan, and Kenzie ran PRs and Hanne, Elyse, and Tianna competed very well. Our throwers did a great job in the weight throw, with Ania surpassing 13 meters for the first time and Mak hitting her second big PR in as many weeks.

"The 800-meter group had a solid meet led by Emily Gordon taking the win, and our 4x400 relay teams looked strong as well, with the A squad of Wilson, Kutcha, Wellner, and Miller running just fractions of a second off their fast opener from last month.

"We have some things to figure out over the next month, but this team is talented and unified, and the potential is there for a special season if we stay focused and do things the right way."
