DETROIT -- For the fifth time in the last seven years, the Wayne State University football program has had an Academic All-American as graduate student linebacker
Carl Ware (Detroit, Mich. / Redford Union [Madonna]) was honored as a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Second Team Academic All-American. Ware is WSU's 98th Academic All-American, with 73 coming since 2000.
Ware, who earned a bachelor's degree in Marketing in May of 2024 and is currently pursuing an MBA was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.5+) twice since transferring from Madonna, and the Coach's Honor Roll (term GPA 3.0-3.49) once.
On the gridiron, he was named to the All-GLIAC Honorable Mention team after appearing in all 11 games and starting 10 times. He recorded two sacks and a forced fumble among his six tackles (4-2) at Tiffin to earn WSU's Defensive Player of the Week award. Ware was credited with seven tackles (4-3), including one for loss vs. Findlay. He notched six tackles (3-3) against Indianapolis, then registered nine tackles (6-3) at Truman State, including 2.5 for loss along with a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and two pass break-ups to earn WSU's Defensive Player of the Week honor. Ware tallied a game-high 11 tackles (10-1) at Michigan Tech, including one for loss along with a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry. He was
selected GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance vs. Ferris State, which included six tackles (1-5), an interception, a forced fumble, a pass break-up and a quarterback hurry. He led the team with 10 tackles (5-5) at Davenport, including two for loss (one sack). Ware collected four tackles (1-3) against Saginaw Valley, then garnered two solo stops at Grand Valley, plus had a pass break-up. He totaled five tackles (3-2) vs. Roosevelt, including one for loss along with his team-leading second interception. In the season finale, Ware made three tackles (1-2) against Northern Michigan, plus a quarterback hurry and a pass break-up.
Ware led the league and tied-for-seventh nationally in forced fumbles with four. He ranked seventh in the GLIAC in tackles (69), tied-for-eighth in interceptions (2), tackles for loss yards (39) and passes defended (7), ninth in assisted tackles (29), tied-for-ninth in solo stops (40), 11th in sack yards (29), tied-for-11th in tackles for loss (9.5 / 8 solo, 3 assisted), tied-for-15th in sacks (3.0 / 3 solo), and tied-for-16th in pass break-ups (5). Ware led the team in interceptions (2), tackles for loss (9.5), and passes defended (7).
