GLIAC -- For the second time this season, the Wayne State University swimming & diving programs nearly swept all four of the GLIAC's weekly honors. Tuesday,
Barbara Munoz (Yumbo, Colombia / Comfandi Yumbo) was named Female Swimmer of the Week,
Wen Wadsworth-Curcuru (Kalamazoo, Mich. / Loy Norrix) was given Female Diver of the Week honors and
Max Wasiniak (Huron, Ohio) received Male Diver of the Week accolades.
The graduate student Munoz was honored for the second time this season and fourth time in her illustrious career. This past Saturday when hosting Saginaw Valley State, Munoz touched the wall first in a pair of events including the 200 free (1:55.07) and 100 fly (59.11). Those two victories helped lead Wayne State to a 141-97 victory over the Cardinals.
The sophomore Wadsworth-Curcuru takes home such honors for the third instance in her career, all three of which have happened in 2024-25. On Saturday against SVSU, Wadsworth-Curcuru won on both boards including 250.88 at one meter and 230.63 at three meters. Those two first-place finishes were among 10 for the Warriors.
The sophomore Wasiniak is now a three-time winner of this award, the first two of which came last season as a rookie. While facing 14th-ranked Saginaw Valley State on Saturday, Wasiniak stood atop the podium for the one-meter board (281.55) and placed second at three meters (276.75).
Those three and their Warrior teammates will be at Grand Valley State for a dual meet on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. The Laker men are ranked fifth in the country according to the CSCAA while the women check in at No. 6.
