DETROIT -- Wayne State University junior baseball outfielder Gabe Zeldes (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Detroit Country Day) has been selected to represent the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and WSU as a member of the National SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee).
"As a Division II baseball student-athlete on the pre-med track, serving as the GLIAC representative on Division II National SAAC allows me to blend the discipline of athletics with the perspective of future healthcare," remarked Zeldes. Â "I strive to advocate for student-athlete well-being and success with balancing the rigors of sport, academics, and service. Â I am excited for this opportunity to represent our conference and to make an impact at the national level."
The NCAA Division II SAAC is comprised of 28 members, 26 of which are DII student-athletes. Â Each of the 23 DII multi-sport voting conferences has a conference representative on DII National SAAC. Â There are also three at-large student-athlete representatives. Â Zeldes has been selected from a slate of GLIAC student-athletes and is representing the entire conference.Â
As the GLIAC SAAC rep, he will serve as the liaison between National SAAC and the GLIAC campus SAACs.Â
Zeldes is one of two baseball student-athletes on the committee.
His three-year term will continue through January of 2028, and he is Wayne State's first National SAAC representative since football student-athlete Deiontae Nicholas served as Vice Chair of the DII National SAAC.
Zeldes will attend his first in-person National SAAC meeting on November 20-23 in Denver, Colo., in conjunction with the SAAC Super Region Convention.
