Cross Country Heads to Muskegon for Jayhawk Invite

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's and women's cross country squads will compete at the Jayhawk Invite on Saturday, October 11, hosted by Muskegon Community College.  The meet will begin at 12:00 PM with the men's 8K, followed by the women's 6K at 1:00 PM.

LAST TIME OUT
The Green and Gold returns to the course for the first time since Saturday, September 27, when both teams saw action at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Lucian Rosa Invite.  The men's team finished 14th in the Championship 8K, while nabbing third in the Open 8K.  Glen Davis (Burtchville, Mich. / Port Huron Northern [SC4/Spring Arbor]) was WSU's top runner, crossing the finish line 38th with a time of 25:35.40.  On the women's side, Ava Peters (Livonia, Mich. / Franklin) led the way for a 12th-place team finish in the Championship 6K, placing 37th (22:23.40).  In the Open 6K, the Warriors claimed first with three top-10 finishers.

RACE OUTLOOK
The Warriors will be joined by 22 other programs, including three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association (GLIAC) member institutions.  The three GLIAC squads that will be represented are Ferris State, Grand Valley State, and Lake Superior State.  The event will take place at the Muskegon Community College Golf Course in Muskegon, Mich.

USTFCCCA RANKINGS UPDATE
The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) released its newest Regional and National Polls, with the WSU men's and women's cross country teams both appearing ranked in the Midwest.  The men's squad is ranked 10th in the region, while the women's team appears ninth.
