Men's Fencing Finishes OSU Elite Invitational

COLUMBUS -- The Wayne State University men's fencing team concluded The Ohio State University's Elite Invitational on Sunday, November 9, at the French Field House.

The Warriors posted a 1-7 record during the event, nabbing a win over Cleveland State University (20-7), while suffering losses to OSU (20-7), the Air Force Academy (19-8), the University of North Carolina (22-5), the University of Pennsylvania (20-7), Princeton University (21-6), Harvard University (21-6), and Penn State University (21-6).

FOIL
On the second day of action, in the foil weapon, Lukas Tsao (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) garnered a 2-3 record that included wins over Princeton and Harvard.  The freshman tallied a 5-12 record at OSU.

Jakub Oronowicz (Clarkston, Mich.) posted a 1-7 ledger on Sunday, with the lone win coming against Harvard.  Oronowicz recorded a 3-18 mark at the invitational.

Finn McIsaac (West Bloomfield, Mich) won one bout against the Crimson for a 1-8 mark on the second day of action, and a 3-17 ledger on the weekend.

Sam Gneuhs (Mason, Ohio / William Mason) was the final WSU student-athlete to compete in the foil, finishing with a 2-12 overall record after falling in each of his five bouts on Sunday.

EPEE
Mahmoud Elsayed (Tanta, Gharbia, Egypt) continued his impressive performance on Sunday, tallying an 8-1 record to move his weekend record to 19-5.

After going 4-8 on Saturday, Shuayb Dinkins (Kissimmee, Fla. / Lincoln Park / Celebration) went 1-5 on Sunday to finish the event with a 5-13 overall bout ledger.

Justin Chenh (Falls Church, Va.) competed in three bouts on day two, prevailing in one to post a 2-9 mark at the Invitational.

Bryce Heim (Oconomowoc, Wis.) was defeated in each of his nine bouts on Sunday, finishing the weekend with a 3-16 record.

SABRE
After going 9-3 on Saturday, Eyad Marouf (Alexandria, Egypt) fell in each of his six bouts on day two to finish with a 9-9 overall mark during the event.

Gabriel Dumoulin (Newtown, Conn.) improved his weekend record to 5-17 after notching a 3-6 ledger on Sunday.

Connor Desautels (Redding, Conn. / Joel Barlow) completed the event with a 6-18 record after posting a 1-8 record on day two.  Desautels nabbed a win over Princeton.

Gwyd Perry (Bloomfield, Mich.) went 0-3 on Sunday, moving his overall record for the weekend to 3-5.

UP NEXT
The Wayne State men's fencing team will next be in action on Saturday, January 31, at Northwestern's Schiller Duals.  The tournament will be a two-day event at the Ryan Fieldhouse.
